Mullan is a city in Shoshone County in the northern part of the U.S. state of Idaho. The population was 692 at the 2010 census, down from 840 in 2000. The city is in the east end of the Silver Valley mining district; located in a sheltered canyon of the Coeur d'Alene Mountains at an elevation of 3,278 feet (1,000 m) above sea level. The entrance to the Lucky Friday mine is several hundred yards east of the city center; the active mine (silver, lead, & zinc) descends more than 6,000 feet (1.83 km) below the surface.Interstate 90 runs by the south side of the city, and the Montana border at Lookout Pass is 4 miles (6 km) east at 4,700 feet (1,430 m) above sea level.
